Victor Estima comes from a new generation of highly skilled North and Northeast BJJ fighters, who won international fame thanks to his talent associated with a progressive and dynamic Jiu-jitsu. Victor, as his brother Braulio, was formed by the teacher Ze Radiola, and is now living in England. He found a break in his schedule and spoke with reporter Olivar Leite from Intheguard.tv about his life on and off the mat. Check out the interview below:
1 - Let's start by the past: how did you start in Jiu-jitsu?
I started training by the influence of my father and my brother, I was becoming very sedentary. Soon after the first international title of my brother, I started training. Three weeks later, I participated on my first competition at the age of 15, and became a champion. This made me believe that I would have some talent for Jiu-jitsu.

I kept participating on BJJ championships. I began to take it seriously at the age of 17, when I started to fight the international championships. Back then it was difficult to be sure if I could make a living out of Jiu-jitsu.
2 - When did you choose to make a living out of BJJ?
I was sure of that when I moved to England to help out my brother Braulio. Then, I decided that I wanted to make a living out of it.
3 - What are your major accomplishments in Jiu-jitsu, competitions and personal life?
My main titles are: 2006 Pan American Champion, 2 times second place in the World Championship in 2003 and 2005, 2 times third place in the World Championship in 2008 and 2009, second place World Champion Abu Dhabi Pro, second place in 2009 Rio Open and third place in the European BJJ Championship in the light heavy weight category and open weight category in 2008.
4 - In the Rio Open Championship, after Raphael Abihiran finished it with a foot lock, you said to me, upset that he could have dropped / loosened before the coup. What happened there?
I lost in the final of the light heavy weight category to Abi-hiran. It is difficult to deal with the adrenaline in these moments.
5 - You have competed in the open weight category, right? Do you feel comfortable in your weight category?
I love to fight in the open weight category, but it's difficult when, in the same competition, my training partners like Roger Gracie, Braulio Estima and Romulo Barral are competing for a place (laughs).
6 - Who are your toughest training partners?
My toughest training partners are: my brother, our students are also very good fighters, Roger Gracie, Luciano, “Lagarto”, and others.
7 - In your opinion, who are the names that you like to see fighting Jiu-jitsu?
I love to see Roger, Braulio, Marcelinho (Garcia), Romulo Barral and Otavio Sousa

8 - Do you like MMA? Is it part of your plans fighting in an event someday?
Yes I like MMA, I'm always watching the events. I think one day I could fight in one, but at the moment, I’m focused on being the best BJJ fighter I can be.
9 - Tell us about your daily routine, where are you living, how are your trainings and what do you like to do in your free time?
I love going to the movies with my fiancee. I also like playing guitar and bass that was what I did before training BJJ. And, of course, traveling and staying with my friends!
10 – Would you like to say thanks to anyone?
I would like to thank, firstly, my teacher “Ze Radiola” and my brother ( Bráulio Estima) for giving me support in my Jiu-jitsu. I would like to send a big hug and say thanks for the opportunity!
